An interesting notion..

Here, while bored on a bus of course, and while the damn thing kept bumping while I was trying to draw, I decided to take advantage of the fact that i kept involuntarily jumping in my seat.
why not let the bumps in the road guide my pencil while shading?
The blessed bumps in the road ended up adding texture and character to my drawing :)

Here it goes..

Chapter one; my first bus journey as "the art freak who wont stop staring at people"

My first time doing this i was very careful and neat with my drawings..

But as time went on, I realised that this way just wasn't going to work! things were moving waaayy too fast for me to capture them perfectly, so yes, I needed to scribble, and scribble is what I did.

When everything was just coming at me at once while they were speeding past my bus window, i just ended up mashing subjects a noticed over a stretch of road about a mile long into a 5 inch stretch of paper.

and when I got so fed up and frustrated at interesting things flying past me before i could even put the pen on the page, I just craved for something to be still and to stop bloody moving, so I drew my reflection :) although I don't look too happy..

All in all, it was a very frustrating way of working, and the results, quite frankly looked crap!
I did them in biro by the way, maybe that had something to do with it!

Change of plans..

Why would i do the general growth of beings when i could simply do my own?
I decided to bring this project to a more personal level. Moving to Limerick from Meath is, as you can imagine, extreeeeemmmly scary for my 17 year old self! So why not explore my journey, my own growth in a sense, through the medium i love the most; Art.

I'm coming from a small town in Meath called Kells, (yeah yeah the Book of Kells and all that jazz..)

, and moving to a city all by my lonesome called Limerick Citaaay.. scary stuff, but I'm doing it anyway.
But it was that first bus journey that was the scariest of all. I had never even been to Limerick before and here I was heading off on a bus from Granard, Co. Longford (which is fourty minutes from my house) and setting myself on a (wait for it..) 4 HOUR BUS JOURNEY!..Perfect for getting work done ;)
So now ladies and gents, I am documenting my journey, my own growth, and the growth and movement around me through the medium of art as my first year LSAD art project :) yaayyyy.

Hmm..

Originally I thought I would parallel the general growth of a human being and some where along the line matbe I could join them up..
Here from my studies of the stages of growth, you can clearly see the similarities between the shell of the seed and the human womb visually and theoretically.

A sketch of Leonardo's study of the womb.

Here i moved my study onto bulbs and their shape, and thought of how i could bring the two genres of growth together as one.

My project is on "Movement and Motion" and of course the first thing i thought of was growth.. :P
I just turned 18 about 2 weeks ago, and I've just moved from county Meath alllll the way down to Limerick city... thats growing up isn't it? hmm...
